This Smoothie is sure to pack a punch of vitamin C, potassium and iron! It’s loaded with spinach and my kids know it!
This smoothie has taken on many different names in my family but it is ultimately the same recipe over and over. It’s been the “Ninja Turtle Smoothie” because my son is obsessed with Ninja Turtles, it’s been called the “Green Machine” another Ninja Turtle reference and it’s been called the “Super Smoothie” because of all the vitamin C and iron packed into a serving, it’s sure to be beat a cold and make you strong.
The one name we consistently go back to though is the, “Muscle Smoothie” I called it the “Muscle Smoothie” because I was inspired by Popeye the Sailor Man. For those unfamiliar with who Popeye is, here is brief synapse. Popeye is an old-school cartoon character, who would eat a can of spinach and grow abnormally large muscles to beat up the bad-guy, who was always trying to steal his girlfriend named Olive Oil.
I told my son, he would get really strong muscles if he drank this smoothie because of all the spinach it. Well, to my surprise he slurps it down every time. The reason being, the blend of mango, banana and fresh squeezed orange juice gives it a naturally sweet citrus flavor.
Here is a list of what goes into our Muscle Smoothie
Getting some additional help!
I always try to get the kids involved with preparing food and cooking as much as possible. This allows them to see what is going into a meal or snack and if we’re prepping veggies or fruit, we munch and crunch while we are doing it. My daughter loves anything I put in front of her. My son on the other hand, he is my picky eater.
Those tiny hands love to press buttons!
Muscle Smoothie Recipe
Total time: 5 minutes Makes: 1-2 8oz servings
Ingredients:
1 cup of spinach
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup cubed frozen mango or 1 whole fresh mango
1 cup of orange juice (preferably fresh squeezed)
Puree in blender with 1/2 cup of ice. Add water as needed to thin consistency.
Blend Away!
If the blender gets stuck add a little water to thin it out.
I think I could use a little water.
Once blended and poured into mason jars (my favorite way to drink a smoothie), I add an eco-friendly straw and call in the tasting panel.
Picky eater approved!
I got the thumbs up!
Happy smoothie making everyone!
